Dr. Matthew T. Smith graduated from University of Tennessee with a B.S. in Biochemistry, Molecular, and Cellular Biology. He attended medical school at the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine where he graduated 5th in his class. Dr. Smith completed his general surgery residency at Ohio University Doctors Hospital/Ohio Health in Columbus, Ohio.

Following residency, Dr. Smith was assigned to Eglin, AFB where he served four years as an active duty US Air Force general surgeon. He completed one combat deployment to Afghanistan in support of Operation Resolute Support and Freedom’s Sentinel.

As a board certified general surgeon, Dr. Smith understands the importance of patient education and involvement in surgical decisions. He prides himself in treating his patients like a member of his family.

When not in operating room, Dr. Smith enjoys traveling, golfing, rooting for the Tennessee Volunteers, and spending time with his wife and young daughter.
